Synopsis

Becoming a spy takes a lot of training and hard work. Getting dumped by one? That’s easy. Assuming said spy doesn’t then show up on your doorstep with a crew of deadly assassins on his tail, of course… Which is precisely the scenario that Audrey (Mila Kunis) and her best friend Morgan (Kate McKinnon) find themselves in when Audrey’s ex (Justin Theroux) turns up at her apartment unexpectedly. The duo is thrust into the middle of an international conspiracy they are utterly unprepared for, but soon they find themselves on the run across Europe, interacting with charming secret agents, and trying to save the world like pros. Well, semi-pros maybe. The Spy Who Dumped Me is directed by Susanna Fogel. The cast also includes Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Ivanna Sakhno, and Sam Heughan.

Full of Bond-style action, witty references, literary allusions, sparkling repartee...I was either honk-laughing, choking with mirth, or grinning like the Cheshire Cat! The laughter in the theatre never stopped, and afterwards, every single person exited smiling! Stay past the credits to watch more! Oh, yeah...Sam is breath-taking.

It’s a deliriously silly, often preposterous movie...but director Susanna Fogel keeps things moving too quickly to leave much time for complaints.

Thanks to McKinnon, “Spy” is a fun summer picture that is truly, weirdly special.
